Storage When Clearing a Family Home
In short: When you are emptying a relative’s home and need time to decide what to keep, one of our insulated 20ft containers holds the contents of an average three-bedroom house, with no time limit. You can come back and sort through things whenever suits you, 24 hours a day, and rent month by month until you are ready.
Time to decide
Clearing a family home is hard, and there is often no space at home for furniture and belongings you are not ready to part with. A container gives you time. You rent month by month with no time limit, and give two weeks’ notice when you have finished. How renting works explains each step.
Sorting through things
You can visit whenever suits you: the site is open 24 hours a day, and if you are coming before 8am or after 8pm, just text or email us first so we have a record for security. There is no light or power inside the containers, so daylight is easiest for sorting. Leaving a walkway down one side when you load makes it easier to reach things later; see how to pack a storage container.
What can and can’t go in
Furniture, boxes and white goods (drained and dry) are fine. Food and perishables, anything flammable from the garage or shed (such as paint, petrol or gas), cash and jewellery (other than costume jewellery) cannot be stored. What you can and cannot store has the full list.
Furniture keeps well
Our containers are spray-foam insulated to reduce condensation. Our guide to storing furniture long term explains how to keep it in good condition.

Most of it, but not paint, petrol, oil or gas. You can’t store a car. A motorbike or ride-on mower is fine, as long as you put a drip tray underneath it so no fluid, fuel or oil can leak onto the container floor.
